Bold and inspiring, RITA's songs are here to empower!

On the 8th of March, for International Womens’ Rights Day, young French-Moroccan singer RITA came out with a new single, ‘Dkhol So9 Rassek’, an anthem for Moroccan women and women everywhere to reclaim their place in the public space. Discover a promising young artist in this exclusive interview.

Firstly, how would you describe yourself?

I’m a shameless, talented, and kind soul.

How would you describe your relationship to music?

My relationship with music is almost instinctive. I started music at the age of 4 and have always written songs and lyrics from since I can remember. I was always singing around the house, taking my mom's phone to record some melodies, basically freestyling before I even knew the word existed. I’ve had a very classical training during my 14 years in the conservatory, but have always taught myself everything when it comes to producing my own songs, etc so it was a very cool mix of using my knowledge but also just trying things out and doing what felt and sounded right to me. I’m always going to need music that’s the one thing I know for sure, I can’t go a day without listening to it, dancing to it, it’s too big a part of my life and I’m so grateful for it.

From where do you draw inspiration?

I draw inspiration from my own experiences and emotions. I write best when I’m very emotional. But I’m also inspired by some artists I look up to, that push me to better my craft. Finally being a woman is what inspires me the most, being around other women, feeling the strength and magic we’ve got in us, how we handle so much and give so much, how we’re truly powerful and limitless, that inspires me and I think we can feel it through my songs.

What is your artist statement?

Overall I’m trying to empower women and young girls. I really believe in our own power in our own magic and I want to praise love and self-love, especially in every single being. I do believe that a lot of issues in our human relationships start within a place of insecurity. And I have done and I’m still doing so much work when it comes to discovering myself loving myself and learning to love living with myself, and it has impacted my life so much that it is a message that I want to send through my songs. I want everyone to live as truly as they can, love as strongly as they desire, and mind their own goddamn business when it comes to others.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’ve recently got signed to the record label New District in Morocco. We just finished recording and filming the first song which is making a bit of noise in morocco. The goal is to keep releasing songs, maybe work on an EP/Album and hopefully inspire many young Moroccan women.

What is something you’re dreaming of accomplishing in the forward future?

I want to gain recognition, not because I want the flattery but because I will feel accomplished knowing I have made a change, I have impacted some lives and inspired many. I want my music to leave people feeling like they can do it all like they are heard.

We want to thank RITA for accepting the interview, for her warmth, and her inspiring talent. Now it’s time for you to tune in and listen to her new single by scrolling down below!
