Challenging the Stereotypes of Black Masculinity: a Sneak Peek at Wani Le Frère’s Art
‘For the boy who thought that God hated his want to love another boy who thought that God hated him’. Wani Le Frère is a Congolese-New-Zealander multidisciplinary artist you should be paying attention to.
He is a born storyteller: whether it is through slam poetry, photography or community building, Wani is creating a new narrative, often centered around the Black/African diaspora in Australia and New Zealand. In his photo series ‘Gideon’, he challenges stereotypes of Black masculinity.
