Mutt: A Rollercoaster Ride Through Life's Challenges

In the heart of New York City, Mutt introduces Feña, a transgender man navigating a day filled with unexpected encounters and emotional challenges. Directed by Vuk Lungulov-Klotz, this poignant drama explores the complexities of identity and relationships against the backdrop of an otherwise normal urban life.

Mutt, a compelling and emotionally charged drama directed by Vuk Lungulov-Klotz, takes us on a whirlwind journey through the tumultuous life of Feña (Lío Mehiel), a young transgender man trying to find his place in New York City. With a rollercoaster of encounters and challenges, the film delves deep into the complexities of identity, family, and relationships, while shedding light on the universal human experience of being caught in the "in-betweenness" of life.

Feña's day starts as an ordinary one in the bustling city, but it soon becomes a crucible where he must confront ghosts from his past. Lungulov-Klotz masterfully uses everyday events as a backdrop for Feña's emotional turmoil. Through these mundane settings, the director skillfully weaves a narrative that seamlessly blends past, present, and future, mirroring Feña's own struggle to reconcile his past and present selves. Lío Mehiel's portrayal of Feña is both authentic and moving. Their character's navigation of his own "obliqueness" is skillful, fumbling, and brutally honest, making the poignant moments Feña shares with others all the more touching. Through three intimate relationships in Feña's life—his estranged father Pablo (Alejandro Goic), his ex-boyfriend John (Cole Doman), and his younger sister Zoe (MiMi Ryder)—the film explores themes of gender, love, and the complex space that defines a trans life, and indeed, all of our lives to some extent.

Mutt is a remarkable film that offers a fresh and authentic perspective on the complexities of identity and relationships. It serves as a reminder that, regardless of our differences, we are all bound by the universal experience of navigating the in-between spaces of our lives. Lío Mehiel's powerful performance and Lungulov-Klotz's skillful direction make Mutt a must-watch for anyone seeking an honest and heartfelt exploration of the human condition.

The movie will be showed at Everybody's Perfect Festival on the 11th, 12th and 13th of October . Get your tickets here, and find the whole program here.
